Madrid’s Prado Museum is one of the leading Art Galleries in the world. It houses the largest collection of paintings by Velázquez, El Greco and Goya. A big part of this collection comes from the Royal Collections. It is really a Must. Even if you believe that Painting is not your “cup of tea”, you will not regret your visit to this superb museum and all that can be learned through the Art inside of it.
We are art and history experts, we will make the paintings come to life for you.
As the famous impressionist painter Degas said, “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see”.
After the tour, we will explore the historical area around the museum. It includes Paseo del Prado boulevard and its beautiful fountains: Neptune, Apolo and Cibeles; Madrid’s City Hall, Alcalá Gate and Retiro Park.
MORE INFO
The Prado Museum was opened in 1.819 in a beautiful neoclassical building.
According to Mr. Falomir’s words, current director of Prado Museum: _
“Prado Museum is the result of the Spanish Kings’ likes during the 16th and 17th century. What they wanted was to collect as many works as possible painted by their favorite painters. That is why it has been said that this is a museum of painters, not of paintings”, because the artists represented in it are represented in a supreme way. The museum can doubtless be proud of housing the largest collections of paintings by Bosch, Titian, El Greco, Rubens, Velázquez and Goya, in the world.
The museum and its collection reflect Spanish history. Having a guided tour will help you to better understand and put into context the sites and places you are going to visit during your stay in Madrid.
After a short coffe break, we will explore the surrounding historical aerea : Prado Promenade with their mithological fountains, and the famous Retiro Park, once the Royal Gardens of the Palace of Buen Retiro. This aerea has been declared a UNESCO world heritage site with the title of “Landscape of Lights and Sciences”.
