AVILA & SEGOVIA FULL DAY
Discover two UNESCO World Heritage sites in one day
Both cities were declared World Heritage sites by UNESCO in 1986.
Avila, founded by the Romans, was one of the main cities in the Kingdom of Castile during the Middle Ages. The city preserves the best medieval walls in Spain, built during the 12th century . They are 1.55 miles long and have 88 towers. The many noble residences in Avila bear witness to its glorious times, in particular the 15th and 16th centuries.
“Santa Teresa” was born in Avila in 1515. Today, we can visit the Church and Convent of Santa Teresa that was built in her birthplace
Segovia welcomes visitors with its impressive Roman Aqueduct, one of the largest still preserved in the world. The Alcazar or castle, perched on a rocky outcrop, was once the favorite residence of Castilian kings and queens and defended the city from the enemy for centuries.
A walk through Segovia is like a trip to the past. Centuries may have gone by, but, in a certain way, time stands still in this city thanks to its many Romanesque churches, noble residences, medieval castle and walls, and its Gothic Cathedral.
Local cuisine in Segovia is not to be missed. Its famous “butter beans”, “roast suckling pig” and “ponche segoviano” dessert are all musts.
