Itinerary
Toledo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a museum-city of great artistic beauty and one of the oldest and most monumental cities in Spain. Toledo is, without doubt one of the must-see cities in Spain.
Founded on a hilltop overlooking the Tagus river 2000 years ago, Toledo was a Roman municipium, the capital of the Visigothic Kingdom, a fortress of the Emirate of Cordoba, and, in the Middle Ages, the time of its splendor, it was named “The City of the three Cultures” because Christians, Muslims and Jews coexisted there. Nowadays you can still admire the remains of bridges, palaces, churches, mosques and synagogues built during all those times.
Sightseeing
Once in Toledo, we’ll spend some time sightseeing to enjoy gorgeous views of the walled Old Town located on a rocky hill and surrounded by Tagus river. We’ll stop at a viewpoint to take photos.
Toledo is a fascinating mix of different styles and cultures. On our walking tour we’ll visit:
The Cathedral
It is an amazing example of the Spanish Gothic style. Its construction lasted centuries, so inside we’ll see not only Gothic, but also great examples of Renaissance, Mudejar and Baroque styles. You will truly be touched by the energy of this historic center of worship and art.
Santo Tomé Church
There are several sites in Toledo where you can discover the works of El Greco, the famous 16th century painter who spent much of his life here in Toledo, but his masterpiece can only be seen in this tiny church. El Greco is one of the masters of Universal Art and his painting “The Burial of the Count of Orgaz” is considered one of the greatest paintings of all times.
The Jewish Quarter
It is one of Toledo’s most authentic neighborhoods. It retains some of its original character from when it was home to Spain’s most prominent Jewish community in the 12th and 13th centuries. We’ll visit the Synagogue of Santa Mª La Blanca which is the oldest synagogue in Toledo.
San Juan de los Reyes Monastery
This beautiful example of Isabelino Gothic style is the second most important temple in the city. Commissioned by the Catholic Monarchs in the 15th century as their burial place, we’ll visit its church and cloister. The whole building reminds us of these Monarchs who changed Spanish history and took us to the beginning of the Modern Age.

It was known as “The Eighth Wonder of the World” and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984.
Only 7 miles away from here is the “Valley of the Fallen”, a spectacular monument in memory to those “fallen” during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). It was commissioned by the dictator Francisco Franco at the end of the war. The Basilica, literally built inside a dynamited-out mountain, is crowned by a 492-foot- high cross. Itinerary
Segovia, whose name means “fortress over the hill” was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985. It lies 56 miles to the northwest of Madrid and boats a picturesque setting at the confluence of two little rivers.
The city welcomes the visitor with its impressive roman Aqueduct, one of the largest still preserved in the world.
The Alcazar or castle, perched on a rocky outcrop, was once the favorite residence of Castilian kings and queens and defended the city from the enemy for centuries.
A walk through Segovia is like a trip to the past. Centuries may have gone by, but, in a certain way, time stands still in this city thanks to its many Romanesque churches, noble residences, medieval castle and walls, and its Gothic Cathedral.
Local cuisine in Segovia is not to be missed. Its famous “butter beans”, “roast suckling pig” and “ponche segoviano” dessert are all musts.
