THE PRADO MUSEUM

A MUST during your stay in Madrid

The museum was opened as a picture gallery in 1819. A great part of its paintings come from The Royal Collections. The museum proudly houses what is undoubtedly the largest collections of paintings by Bosch, Titian, El Greco, Rubens, Velázquez and Goya in the world.

According to Mr. Falomir’s words, current director of Prado Museum:

”The Prado Museum is the result of the Spanish Kings’ likes during the 16th and 17th centuries. What they wanted was to collect as many works as possible painted by their favorite painters… That is why it has been said that this is a museum of painters not of paintings, because the artists represented in it are represented in a supreme way”.

The museum and its collection reflects Spanish history. A guided tour will help you to better understand and put into context the sights and locations you are going to visit during your stay in Madrid.

“Las Meninas” by Velázquez, “The Executions” by Goya, “The Three Graces” by Rubens or “The Garden of Earthly Delights” by Bosch, are some of the highlights of the museum that you will never forget.
